About the EDM Council

The EDM Council is a 501(c)(6) non-profit trade association focused on managing and leveraging enterprise data as a strategic asset to enable financial institutions to increase efficiency, minimize risk, and create competitive advantage.

The members of the Council agree to the following core principles:

1. Data that financial institutions trust and have confidence in to be 'fit for purpose' for all data intensive applications with minimal reconciliation
2. Data that is easy to integrate into systems, share internally and communicate throughout the supply chain
3. An efficient chain of data supply where attributes are tagged correctly without the need for multiple transformations
4. A competitive information marketplace with a focus on the creation of added value and convergence to industry standards/best practices all guided by an operating model based on reasonable contractual/administrative terms and conditions

The specific goals of the Council are to:

• Define, promote and advocate EDM as a business priority and support our members in dealing with the "politics of positioning."
• Facilitate the sharing of practical EDM implementation experiences using targeted working sessions and through peer-to-peer interaction
• Collect metrics, conduct research and document best practices to advance the art of data management
• Implement core identification standards for uniquely and precisely identifying financial instruments, business entities, data attributes and classification schemes (the foundation of effective data management)
• Help improve the efficiency of the data supply chain by defining requirements and facilitating interaction related to data manufacturing processes, the changing nature of added value, commercial models and data usage rights.
